Polarsteps' core app is free, but its extra features live behind Polarsteps Plus — €8.99/month or €29.99/year, for as long as you want them. Google Timeline is also free, but it's automatic background location tracking tied to your Google account, not a travel journal you deliberately keep. Travel Atlas costs less than one month of Polarsteps Plus — once, not monthly — and never asks for an account either way.
Hi, I'm Rowan. I built Travel Atlas myself because I wanted a private way to map my travels, and every app I tried wanted an account, a subscription, and my location history. So I built the one I actually wanted — no account, no tracking, and your own data never touches a server. If you have questions, I'm a real person and happy to answer them: rowangoss@gmail.com
Because there's no cloud sync, your pins and photos live only on the device you added them on. If you lose that device or wipe it, that data is gone unless you backed it up yourself. Use Export Backup (built into the app) any time to save everything — pins and photos — into one file, then Import it on a new device to bring your whole atlas back. This is the real trade-off of no-account, no-cloud: the privacy comes from nothing leaving your device by default, but backing up is on you.
If you're in the EU, UK, Switzerland, Turkey, or Israel, you have a legal right to withdraw within 14 days of purchase — though that right ends early once you've started using the app (standard for instantly-delivered digital content; full detail in our Right of Withdrawal Notice). Outside those regions, refunds go through Paddle, our payment provider, at their discretion if you contact them within 14 days. Either way, email me first and I'll help sort it out.
Mostly. Your pins, photos, and trip history are stored on your device and always available, connection or not. The live map itself and the full 5-million-place search need a connection to load — but your own data is never sent anywhere, with or without one.
One-time purchase. Yours forever.
14 days to change your mind. EU/UK buyers have a statutory right to withdraw — see our Right of Withdrawal Notice for the exact terms. Outside the EU/UK, email rowangoss@gmail.com and we'll sort out a refund with Paddle.
